My notes on Linda's sermon:
Begins with bi-lingual prayer Spanish and English.
She is talking about looking herself in the mirror....seldom looks as herself in the likeness of God. Can you believe that. James is talking about us see the God image in ourselves.
If we talk too much and listen too little, we may miss the chance to be shaken. Progressive thinking suggests discomfort. Voice of the marginalized and powerless need to be heard. Holy chaos can happen we let new voices emerge. The goal is liberation that frees the oppressor and the oppressed.
Liberation is a childbirth. Removing our masks is liberation for everyone. James is harsh...he hits it right in the face. James warns us that we better make sure that when we talk about God...we are really talking about God.
Did you know the root word for religion is liturgy...religion is our rituals, practices, and patterns. James talks about religion beyond being in church but out in the streets. Our worship experience is an everyday experience.
