I am a big fan of Speak Out time at Annual Meeting. The gathering is timed out and scripted. The speakers are all scheduled in advance. Yet, we have left one little opening for the unpredictable and the chaotic -- SPEAK OUT! You do have to sign up which is another concession to the the "organizers" but the topics are not controlled by the organizers. I don't mean to sound like an anarchist who despises all organization and institutional controls. But, I do like the spontaneity and would like to see more of it in the Speak Out time. I would like to see fewer announcements and more issues & opinions presented.This post includes a picture of Mary Stamp -- Fig Tree editor and also editor of the Conference edition of United Church News. Her speak out informed us that the demise of the newspaper is touching us too. She is calling for input and discussion about how we re-create this work into a new thing, in new ways.
