This morning there was a hearing for each resolution. The voting members at the hearing were allowed in some cases to recommend amendments to the resolution. Resolutions to be considered at UCC Synod this summer coming from somewhere else may not be amended. All resolutions have been recommended, two with amendments.
Slideshow of hearing recommendations on resolutions
Resolution 1 just passed on the floor of Annual Meeting
Resolution 2 on Divestment from Fossil Fuels -- hearing not allowed to amend, 2/3 of hearing voted to recommend this resolution to the Body.
Question from the floor about "who are the fossil fuel companies" No one spoke against motion.
Resolution passed with almost no opposition.
Resolution 3 brought forward two word changes in the link above. Conversation was conducted with some women religious and it is believed this will be received as supportive. Nearly 100% agreement in the hearing.
Question of floor...becoming a motion to strike line 31-35 -- Roman Catholic Church has their polity, we disagree with it but it is their polity...we should not pick a fight with their polity. Lots of conversation about the wording in these lines with lots of suggestions....issue, can we speak up against patriarchy in the Roman Catholic Church but actually in the context of the whole world. After lots of conversation...a couple of amendments were voted down and Resolution as amended in hearing was approved by almost 100%
Resolution 4 on Opposing Coal Export Terminals and transport -- no one comes to oppose.....Approved as amended in hearing by almost unanimous
Resolution 5 on Changing the Fiscal Year from the calendar year to June through following May. This will help Annual Meeting to know the budget clearer and to have budget match OCWM. This is a boring topic to many but it has important implications to our life together as a Conference. If passed there will be a budget for all of 2013 and then a five month budget to start 2014 - then the new fiscal year will begin.
